JACKSON, MI – A picturesque view of downtown Jackson is part of a new ballroom at Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Washington Ave.

City View 520 can accommodate larger groups – up to 700 people – and joins two other ballrooms already in operation. It was completed on the fifth floor of the building this summer and had a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 14.

“It’s up, it’s quiet, (and it’s) private,” building owner Donald Finelli said. “The really cool thing about it is, it’s really big. You can do a big event in here. It can be intimate, but it can be big at the same time.”

The top-floor ballroom is 8,500 square feet and faces the Consumers Energy headquarters. Finelli’s business, Event Source, organizes events at the space, providing catering, chair and table setup and more.

City View 520 rental starts at $2,499 – steeper than the $1,799 to rent out The Grand Ballroom or $1,499 Atrium Room in the same building. But City View 520 is one of the few places in the city that can seat more than 400 people, Finelli said.

“My whole life, I’ve either gone big or stayed home,” Finelli said. “I want to be the number one in the market.”

Finelli plans on hosting corporate events, weddings, wakes and everything in between at the new ballroom.

The space was originally planned for a company to expand into. When that didn’t materialize and the other two ballrooms couldn’t handle the larger groups, Finelli decided the convert the top-floor space. He added carpet, a dance floor, a bar area and a photo booth while purchasing chairs, tables, and china.

Finelli has owned the building since 1991, adding multiple businesses, a cafe and will soon add a fitness center. A large black platform next to the center is the space where Finelli hopes to build a six-story tower for a large business to move into.

While many ballrooms need to be booked months in advance, City View 520 just became available, so there are many openings. Call 517-784-0059 to inquire about the space.
