JACKSON, MI – A good pair of shoes, a ride to downtown Jackson and $30 is all you need for an unlimited amount of samples at nine downtown establishments on Tuesday, March 28.
The 10th annual Jackson County Rose Festival Restaurant Rally is from 6 to 9 p.m. For the first time, all locations on the tour are in downtown Jackson.
“With all the improvements that have been going downtown, we thought this year we would focus on the downtown area,” said Lynda Waldron, president of Jackson County Rose Festival.
Each venue serves up a fan favorite or new items for participants to try out. There is no limit on samples, however you cannot return to a venue after leaving. One 2016 option was a beef and cheese nacho bowl from Chilango’s Burrito Bar.
Here’s a list of the nine locations on the tour this year.
- Chilango’s Burrito Bar
- Chilango’s Chop House
- Grand River Brewery
- Commonwealth Commerce Center’s Atrium Cafe
- Michigan Theatre of Jackson
- Gilbert Chocolates
- Junk Yard Dog
- The Dirty Bird
- The Crazy Cowboy
Each restaurant is still open for regular customers. In addition to popcorn and $2 beer samples, the Michigan Theatre of Jackson will show a five-minute media presentation on the history of the Jackson County Rose Festival – which is in its 59th year.
For guidance, participants receive ink pens with pull-out scrolls. One side has a map of all the locations and the other side has a checklist.
Tickets are available at jacksonrosefestival.org. They can be purchased or picked up at the Grand River Brewery from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The Restaurant Rally kicks off the Jackson County Rose Festival’s season of events. The Rose Gala is May 6, the Rose Parade and Picnic in the Park is June 4 and the three pageants are Aug. 5.
Money raised from Tuesday’s event goes into festival account, Waldron said, supporting insurance and other purchases sponsorships don’t cover.
