JACKSON, MI — The Junkyard Dog restaurant in downtown Jackson is set to open pending its last check by the Jackson County Health Department, owner Mike Carrigan said.
The restaurant at 128 W. Michigan Ave. should open sometime after Labor Day, which is Sept. 5, Carrigan said. The health department check is coming around Aug. 27-28 and an exact opening is going to be solidified after that, he said.
“We’re going for a laid-back atmosphere with hot dogs,” Carrigan said. “Our hot dogs will be bigger than normal. We’ll have the staple dogs, but also specialty dogs. Customers will be able to order what they want a la carte style.”
Carrigan said an online menu will be available when the Junkyard Dog launches its Facebook page soon.
He said lunch deals are going to be offered, as well as beer and hot dog specials. The restaurant has a full-service bar stocked with traditional beers.
“We’re leaving the micro-brews to Randy,” Carrigan said in reference to The Dirty Bird bar opening Sept. 6 down the street at 140 W. Michigan Ave.
