DDA Board of Directors & Staff
BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND COMMITTEES:
The DDA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of the Mayor and twelve other members appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. The Board members represent businesses, property owners, and residents of the community. The DDA is a public body and must conduct itself in accordance with all of the Michigan Statutes governing the operation of public agencies.
The DDA's Board of Directors meets on the second Thursday of each month in the 10th Floor Conference room, 161 W. Michigan Ave., unless noted on calendar of events. If you would like to be on the agenda for a specific topic, please contact the DDA office.
The DDA has 3 advisory committees comprised of individuals in the community who have a passion for Downtown Jackson. The Promotions Committee, Economic Restructuring Committee, and Design Committee advise the DDA Board on issues and help make downtown a better place through their work.
The Promotions Committee - Promotion takes many forms, but the goal is to create a positive image that will rekindle community pride and improve consumer and investor confidence in your commercial district. Advertising, retail promotions, special events, and marketing campaigns help sell the image and promise of Main Street to the community and surrounding region. Promotions communicate your commercial district's unique characteristics, business establishments, and activities to shoppers, investors, potential business and property owners, and visitors. The Economic Restructuring Committee - strengthens our community's existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. This is accomplished by retaining and expanding successful businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness and merchandising skills of business owners, and attracting new businesses that the market can support. Converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property also helps boost the profitability of the district. The goal is to build a commercial district that responds to the needs of today's consumers. Click here to join the committee
The Design Committee - works to get Main Street into top physical shape. Capitalizing on its best assets — such as historic buildings and pedestrian-oriented streets — is just part of the story. An inviting atmosphere, created through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, street furniture, signs, sidewalks, street lights, and landscaping, conveys a positive visual message about the commercial district and what it has to offer. Design activities also include instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning.
